Hoping the salsa before bedtime is actually going to take off - there was nobody downstairs in Havana's when I called in last Tuesday, but that may be because it was just after a Bank Holiday. Might call into Culto's tomorrow if I get my packing for Brussels finished in time.
Went to my first class for ages on Sunday. I decided it was time I started polishing up my dancing, plus I really needed some exercise so I went to Fahrenheit. Tip: go on a hot day as there will be fewer dancers there (6 this week) and you'll get more individual advice. Even though it's only supposed to be improvers/intermediate level Andy tailored it for the people who were there and I learnt some really useful stuff. Having women there who could give intelligent feedback on the lead helped as well (thanks Gemma and Collette). Shame there was no free dancing afterwards, but you can't have everything. I'm going to try and go more often.

Hi Tom,
Thanks very much for popping in the other week. The last couple of Tuesdays we have had an excellent dancing night downstairs at Havana. At the moment its mostly our own students taking advantage of 'why wait till late' after they have finished their class (Tues and Wed) and as we have quite a lot of students we fill up the floor and have a great night all the way till midnight. Beginners class finishes at around 8.45pm which is why you would have found it empty downstairs before that time. Last night we also had Marlen and friends pop in for dancing and they did a superb Reggaeton demo as well for our students which they loved! 'Why wait till late' was ultimately introduced to keep our own students happy. But we realised that the salsa community can benefit too if they want with dancing before bedtime! The only downside of 'why wait till late' is that there is no common start time. We have this problem in particular on a Wednesday. We get some people turning up for dancing at 8.30pm and finding it a little quiet, so having a dance or 2 then leaving then some may turn up at 9.30pm, then a few more at 10.30pm. If everyone had turned up at the same time it would have been fine! We are happy to provide 'why wait till late' for our own students and it works very well for them and for us on Tues and Wednesdays, altho admiteddly at the moment our Wednesday night classes and dancing is a little quieter. (This is gonna change we have a lot more new students joining our Wednesdays and a few things coming up... watch this space!). If you do want dancing before bedtime to work for the salsa community as a whole then you guys need to spread the word and arrange common(ish) times to all turn up at the venue. :-)
